Personal "Cutting Shapes to the Figure" Service - the Period Mantua-Maker's Draping Method
DO YOU STRUGGLE TO GET A GOOD FIT USING COMMERCIAL PATTERNS FOR 18TH CENTURY GOWNS?
THEN YOU NEED SHAPES CUT TO FIT YOU!
Using the methods of 18th century mantua makers, I will drape and cut a set of fabric pieces called “shapes” that fit you precisely, that can be used as the basis (similar to a pattern) for making a fitted 18th century outer garment such as a gown or fitted jacket. This method is exactly the right foundation for the lining of such a garment, especially if you are following the order of operations and using period construction techniques as used by mantua-makers of the period.
For a demonstration of how this is done, please see this video on my YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/WPPKFshOGvk
With such a set of shapes cut for you, there is no need for a conventional pattern nor indeed in most cases any need to make a mock-up before cutting your good fabric for your gown.
Included in this service will be full advice on how to use the shapes I have cut for you as a basic pattern to make fitted 18th century gowns and jackets.
This shop price covers my time, skills and expertise in providing the service. Any travel expenses will be additional and charged at cost – a quote will be given in advance.
Please note:
1. This is a personal service that can only be done in person, by appointment.
2. This bespoke service can only be carried out with you wearing a well-fitting shift and set of period stays.
